FAQ

Answers Before You Call.

The questions we are asked most often, answered here so that finding out does not have to start with a phone call.

Questions about one particular service — a kitchen, a basement, a fence — are answered on that service’s own page.

Before the work starts

What happens after I get in touch?

We start with a consultation to understand your goals, your property, your priorities, and your budget. We then evaluate what the project requires and develop a practical plan for the work. You receive a detailed estimate setting out the proposed work and the project scope before anything starts.

How is the work priced?

Small repairs are billed at $55–60 per hour, with a $100 call-out fee covering the first hour. Larger jobs are priced by project, built from the scope of work, project complexity, estimated project duration, and materials and supplies. Rates are as of 2026, and final pricing is confirmed in your written estimate.

Do you work in my community?

We are based in Nanaimo and work throughout Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Ladysmith, Duncan, North Cowichan, Port Alberni, and Lake Cowichan. Outside these communities, ask — we consider projects across Vancouver Island.

Does my project need a permit?

It depends on the work and on the municipality the property sits in. Structural changes and work that moves plumbing or electrical are the usual triggers. We look at this while the project is being assessed and planned, so it is settled before the estimate is agreed rather than part-way through the job.

While the work is underway

Who will be working in my home?

Our team, carrying out the work with attention to quality, safety, precision, and detail. That team combines extensive hands-on construction experience with a Civil Engineering background and skilled-trade expertise, and the company is fully licensed and insured.

Who supplies the materials?

Normally we do. Materials and supplies are one of the four things a quote is built from, so they are set out in the estimate along with the work. If there is a fixture or a finish you would rather supply yourself, say so during planning and the estimate is written around it.

Will I have to move out while the work is done?

Usually not for work on a single room. Which parts of the property stay in use, and when, is part of the plan we put together before the work begins, and staged work is arranged so the home remains liveable. A project that takes the kitchen or the only bathroom out of service for a stretch is worth talking through at the consultation.

After the work is finished

How does a project finish?

With a final walk-through. We review the completed work with you and make sure the project meets our standards and your expectations. Clean finishing is one of the things we pay attention to on every job, so the space is handed back clean.

What does the workmanship warranty cover?

Our workmanship carries a two-year warranty. Materials carry their own manufacturer’s warranty, which is separate and runs for whatever term the manufacturer sets.

What if something needs attention months after the job is done?

Call us and describe what you are seeing. Work we did is covered by the two-year workmanship warranty; a material or an appliance is covered by its manufacturer’s warranty instead.
